How Do You Bookend Your Day?

How Do You Bookend Your Day?

The other day I was having a beautiful soul-chat with one of my dearest friends, Sarah. We talked about all the things that moved our hearts and the practices that we loved that lifted us to greater states of awareness.

Our conversation explored the concept of conscious living - the desire to simplify and declutter aspects of our lives and ourselves to give breathing space for where we wanted our energy to flow. In the midst of all our wide-eyed intentions and dreams, we were limited by time and the ability to somehow do all that we wanted.

Of course, it would be absolutely amazing to have 3 hours dedicated to morning rituals, but in reality, the majority of us don't always have the time to fit it all in before we need to scoot out the door. And what about all those days when we are honestly scrapping by in survival mode and are running on almost empty? How can we begin and end even the busiest of days as mindfully as possible?

Sarah and I talked about how we could strip everything back to its most essential - a concept we referred to as "bookending" our day. In other words, how do we begin the day and how do we complete our day consciously?

One Essential Ritual For A Mindful Morning

One Essential Ritual For A Mindful Morning

Today, I wish to share one essential ritual that I have been exploring recently to create a more mindful morning. I hope that it gives you something to try tomorrow morning to bring a little more connectedness, calm and mindfulness into your day.

What do you do as soon as you wake up in the morning, as soon as your eyes blink open? Do you reach for your mobile, switch off the alarm and then proceed to check your emails? Do you find yourself on Facebook or instagram, eyes squinting to focus on the screen, amidst the darkness of the room?

Or...Do you take a few moments to reflect and sit in stillness with yourself before you begin your day?

Today, I want to share with you something I have been working on. It's called The Mindful Morning Weekly Planner. It's a free download that I have designed and created to help you bring greater clarity, intuition, and mindfulness to your mornings.

This weekly planner was something I have been creating in my head for quite a while. Over the last few months, I have been focusing on decluttering and simplifying various aspects of my life. With this, I have also applied this focus to make my morning rituals a little simpler too.

Going back to basics, my mindful morning means creating more space for things to flow, letting things show up as they need to and allowing greater freedom.

This act of creating a more minimalist lifestyle has helped me release my expectations around holding onto a rigid routine where I end up packing in too many things into my mornings. It has been a really beautiful process to explore simplifying and decluttering my morning rituals. It has spurred me to redefine what mindfulness in my mornings really means to me.

Recipe 6 Nut Mylk Flavours

Recipe 6 Nut Mylk Flavours

I love using nut milk in my recipes for my soups and smoothies. However, nut milk is especially perfect when you use it for your porridge or for your morning tea.

I love the subtle sweet and earthy flavour that nut milk has. Recently, I have been making my own nut milk instead of purchasing it from the shops. Not only is it more cost effective, but it is also simple and easy to make.

I also love that I can now create my own version of homemade nut milk. Because of it's subtle flavours, we can create something truly interesting and delicious using some "add ons" to go with our nut milk. This really aligns with my love for creative experimentation in the kitchen.

My mindful philosophy for cooking is all about letting go. I had a conversation this week with my friend around cooking about letting go of our expectations that meals have to be perfect. When we cook, sometimes we feel that we need to follow recipes perfectly in order to get the best results.

But, I think the most joyful aspects of cooking is in the process itself - it's when you let go, and allow your creative intuition to take over.

So with this in mind, I have left a portion of this recipe largely up to you. I have provided some suggestions to spark some ideas - but really, this recipe is all about experimenting and experiencing different things to find what you really love.
