client Background

Mitch and Rhys approached me from One Labs to create a new brand with them. They had a brilliant concept for bringing a personalised haircare, skincare and supplement solution to people who need a customised, gentle and natural solution for their hair, skin and bodies. A truly one-of-a-kind experience that required a formulation tailored to each individual's requirements.

Together, we worked on their brand with a high focus on the packaging and website design for their first range, One Haircare.

Personalised haircare without the nasties with a science backed formula.

Objective and goals

One Labs needed a parent brand that could allow for other sub-brands in haircare, supplements, and skincare to be added over time.

We wanted the packaging to be an aligned representation of One Labs values and commitment to their customers. The packaging material needed to be sourced from recycled materials and allow people to see the colour of their shampoo or conditioner, as this is one of the things people could select. The screen print on the bottle needed to work with One Labs haircare colours yet also feel minimalist, clean and contemporary.

Strategy and results

To ensure that the overall parent brand could hold sub-brands as the company evolves, we used a framework for combining the text-based logo section "Labs" and the sub-brand "haircare" or "supplements" with the logo mark for "1". This means that each sub-brand logo can be easily paired with newer sub-brands, but there would always be a visual link back to the "1", which is the unifying concept for the One Labs brand.

The "1" logo mark has a hidden smiling face, representing One Labs optimism and vision for making a positive environmental impact. We selected a deep, rich, hunter green for the primary colour to convey confidence, impact and connection back to nature.

For the packaging, we created a custom bottle shape with a gentle curve on the corners and the debossed "1" icon to keep the brand subtle yet impactful when held. We ensured that the different colours available for their haircare product is highly prominent.
