client Background
Tahlee and Harley reached out for full brand design and illustration creation for their Restful app. Restful uses meditones, a blend of binaural beats, voice and ambient music created by Tahlee to help people ease anxiety and cultivate a calmer, restful state of being. Meditones have been scientifically proven to be an effective way to soothe the nervous system.
They had initially built the first version of the app to get feedback and reviews and were looking to relaunch the app with cohesive branding to grow their subscription base.

Objective and goals
We needed the brand to stand out and look different from the existing binaural beats and meditation apps on the market. It needed to feature a compelling app icon and branded icons to help users navigate the various areas of music on the app. The overall brand needed to convey the feeling that Restful wanted people to feel after they listened to the music; rested, soothed, relaxed and calm.
Stylescape & Creative Direction
Inspired by calming spaces, cosy wintery mornings inside with blankets and hot chocolate and fluid watercolours and textures melding together.
The Design
Strategy and results
We created a colour palette that conveyed gentle warmth and calm. It needed to feel both cosy and spacious. We created watercolour backgrounds to cultivate a restful, dreamlike state for the website and app design.
We needed to create a unique look and feel to differentiate it from the existing meditation and binaural apps. Most current apps had a clean, crisp, contemporary look with bolder colours and strong fonts, so we wanted Restful to feel experiential, layered and textural instead. We used a softer, lagoon inspired colour palette and paired it with dark aqua text elements for contrast and presence.
